73rd Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands

2018 Flag raising Ceremony Town Hall Sussex N.B. 10:00 am Saturday, 5th May
Based on the agreements signed in 2015, the Town of Sussex and the Town of Tynarloo (Eelde) in the Netherlands agreed to fly each others flags on 05 May annually to celebrate the end of WW II in the Netherlands, and to recognize the war time role played by the 5th Armoured Regiment - The 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s), a regiment that has resided in the Town of Sussex for 170 years continuously.
The Schedule of Events

1000 hrs – Sussex Town Hall. A welcome to our guests and visitors and a reading of the flag declaration.
1015 hrs – Sussex Town Hall. Raising the flags of Tynarloo and the 8th Canadian Hussars (PL).
1030 hrs - Move to the 8th Hussars Museum. Welcome from the Museum Chair. Remarks by Brian Clancy, Sussex Middle School with presentation of copies of their book "Cher Kitty: Lessons from the Life of Anne Frank" based on her story from WW II
Unveiling of the 8th Hussars Museum 2018 displays, “1918 World War One” and “The Last Soldier to Die” with stories and artifacts.
1115 hrs – Museum tour with a focus on the story of the Eelde gold medal, the first Eelde flag to fly after 05 May 45, the friendship shoes and audio documentary of the presentation of the gold medal in 1952 by the Ambassador, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Regiment.
