The 8th Hussars Museum and the Association of the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s) Inc Presents -
A Celebration of the Regiments and the Town of Sussex’s Military Contributions to Canada’s 150th Anniversary
The 8th Hussars Museum and the Association of the 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s) Inc will be hosting a 125th Anniversary celebration to recognize the role that the Town of Sussex and the 8th Hussars Regiment have played in the 150 years of military history of Canada. The 8 Canadian Hussars (PL) Regiment is one of only a few Regiments in Canada who can celebrate service to Canada for that entire period of time and the Town of Sussex has been home to the Regiment for those 150 years plus as well.
The towns military history also includes Camp Sussex and the role it has played in Canada military life, while supporting Canadian war efforts in both World War I and II.

Memorial Service and Dedication of the Memorial Cairn The Memorial Service will be held at the 8th Hussars Museum at the historic Train Station in Sussex with the dedication of the new UN and NATO memorial cairn as part of the memorial service. The Regiment will march on at 0945 hrs followed by the arrival of the Town Executive and special quests. A number of veterans from the peacekeeping years and the NATO tours will be on hand to share in the unveiling process. The cairn will be placed directly in front of the Lynx monument at the museum and several historical vehicles will be on static display for the event as well. The general public are invited to attend. Please note that parking in the vicinity of the museum may be limited.
8th Hussars Museum Guided Tours For those interested in the Regiments history, guided tours will be provided from 1300 hrs until 1500 hrs.
The 150th Dinner and 150th Anniversary Celebration The 150th dinner will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 66 Magnolia Ave in Sussex starting at 1730 hrs with the meal beginning at 1800 hrs. We are attempting as closely as possible to duplicate the turkey dinner served in 1867 when a troop of Hussars trained at Fox Hill, NB and held a party to honour the founding of Canada. There will not be any featured quest speakers. In lieu of that, the 8th Hussars Museum volunteers and members of the Regiment will present a military history of the Regiment and the Town in three segments featuring 50-year periods of time. Vignettes illustrating specific events will be included and some of the parts will played by soldiers of the Regiment. The entertainment for the evening will feature a Celtic/Irish theme band, Differentfolk, whose members have been featured at the opening of the East Coast Music Awards. This will close out the evening with a two-hour kitchen party and hopefully some great memories.
Members of the community who wish to attend the 150th dinner may purchase tickets at the 8th Hussars Museum on Weds 04 Oct between 4.30 and 6.30 PM or Fri 06 Oct between 11.30 AM and 1.30 PM at $35 per plate. 06 Oct is the firm deadline for purchasing tickets.
